Spiced Sangria

CuisineMentor’s German Glühwein ( prepared according to instructions on package prepared using 2 bottles red wine; cooled to room temperature in a large non-reactive container.)
1 each lemon, orange and lime cut into wedges
2 shots brandy, gin or rum (optional)
4 cups chilled ginger ale, club soda or citrus soda, divided
about 2 cups additional sliced fruit, divided

Squeeze the juice from the lemon, orange and lime wedges into the prepared Glühwein. Toss in the fruit wedges (leaving out seeds if possible) and add brandy. Chill overnight.
When ready to serve, pour half chilled wine mixture into a pitcher. Add 2 cups chilled ginger ale or club soda and 1 cup additional fruit. Serve with, or without ice cubes.
About 15 servings.

Addition ideas: sliced strawberries, peaches, handful of fresh blueberries, raspberries, kiwi, apple slices, sliced oranges, lemons, limes.
A non-alcoholic version, “Innocent” Sangria, can be made with grape juice rather than wine.
